MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) is a National Accreditation programme for hair, health and beauty industry professionals.
The MASCED Accreditation Programme has been developed by Skcin to significantly raise awareness of the early signs and symptoms of skin cancer and to promote the early detection of melanoma, to improve prognosis and save lives.
The programme has also been developed to raise awareness of the importance of Sun Safety to aid the prevention of around 86% of melanoma and the majority of all skin cancer cases. This supports the call by public health figures for a wider perspective on who is most effective to help improve the nation’s health and address concerns raised in the Government’s 2020 Skin Cancer Vision. At Skcin we strongly believe that offering this valuable training to the estimated 250,000 people working across the hair, health and beauty industry, will provide a vital first line of defence against this deadly and devasting disease.
Hair, Health and Beauty Professionals are in a unique position to become powerful advocates in the fight against the UK’s most common cancer and potentially save lives.
Hair, health and beauty professionals who see their clients on a regular basis, have the opportunity to observe changes that may occur on their clients skin, particularly in areas that clients may not be able to see themselves, placing them in an invaluable position.
By taking the time to swot up on skin surveillance and learn how to identify suspicious lesions, professionals are perfectly placed to detect the early signs of skin cancer and advise clients to take action. This could prevent disfigurement through surgery and in the case of spotting melanoma early, save lives.
